Pre-Convocation 2011 - UNIMAS 15th Convocation

The convocation is about 3 days' away and the atmosphere for the whole campus is in festivities. Canopies are being set up here and there and I saw this merry-go-round thing(what do call those anyway...).. Unfortunately I did not manage to take the picture of that merry-go-round thing as I was driving.

So tonight's is the full dress rehearsal and official opening of the Pesta Konvo 2011 will be held tomorrow evening.  Loads of activities have been planned and arranged by the committee members. There will be loads of food stalls, stalls selling flowers and souvenirs, of course not forgetting  photography shops giving their best discounts to the graduates. There will also be exhibitions from the various government and private institutions, banks and telecommunications companies.   Other activities includes, Career Fairs, Mari Berpantun, Battle of the Bands,  Fun-fair(remember that merry-go-round thing I mentioned earlier, that was for the Fun-fair), Pesta Senam Tari, Cooking Competion, Pesta Mengail, Street Dance, performance by Tuku Kame', Group Shuffle competition, Kayak Competition and the list goes onnnnnnn.   Guest artiste is Bunkface who will perform on Saturday nite 22/10/2011.    So, that's all for now, ooooh and by the way UNIMAS didn't pay me for this  publicity...ihiks..just want to share it here.

Hai Mim, kita sama2 busy gialah rupanya, kamek selalu juak jengok blog kitak tp malas nak komen ..jd SR jak..hehee..kakak demam aritok ..tambah gik dengan batok2, hopefully ok cos kelak kakak on duty di Dewan weekend tok....palak agik angol2 kak makan ubat batok...

My trip to Miri not only gave me the opportunity to reunite with old friends that I missed dearly but I also took the golden opportunity to learn more about my dad's language. My dad is a Melanau from Kpg Suyong, Balingian. Their melanau dialect differs from the rest of the Melanau dialects from Mukah, Oya, Rejang, Dalat, Matu, Igan & Bintulu. Sad to say that this particular dialect is slowly disappearing. Even my aunt Regina or fondly known as Usu Ina who is married to a melanau from Bintulu is at loss with her own Balingian dialect at times. So far, I've noticed that only my dad, my first cousins Lai & Kak Senah are still speaking this beautiful dialect fluently. Usu Ina converse mostly in the Mukah dialect and I observed that she would refer to Lai if she was not sure of the language itself. My dad and his siblings back in Balingian still converse in their own dialect but once they are out of their kampung, they would converse in the Mukah dialect again. Mmmmmmmmmmm.
