Quiet weekend.

Image
Nothing much to do. After cooking these dishes for lunch, I called a neighbour to check on my car. And now am waiting for the mechanic to reply my messages. Well..at times things just go wrong at the same time.  Perfect timing indeed as the roadtax is due for renewal this 25th. My favourite, Sambal Terung.     Been craving to cook this Ayam Masak Kunyit for ages and finally I did.  Mum complained it was a tad bit salty.

Bored and missing TaeBom Couple

This is as simple as it gets. Was planning to cook chicken today when I saw this mackerel in the freezer, first thing on my mind was masak asam..  so walla...and not forgetting my favourite kerabu nenas or in English Pineapple Salad. Its been a quiet weekend so far apart from baking Brownies for a friend.  As I am still missing Choi Tae Joon and Apink Bomi fondly known as TaeBom couple, I spent the time by watching their previous episodes again. Yes.again and again.  Managed to cheer myself up but still teary whenever I saw them. Kerabu Nenas Ikan Tongkol masak asam Fudgy Rich Wrinkly Chocolate brownies for a friend

Since I have some of the basic core ingredients for a Korean dish, I prepared this simple meal. It has sesame oil, home-made Spinach Kimchi, Gochujang, garlics and seaweed. Tadaaa..my version..oh and not forgetting my spicy cili padi just to give it a tad Malaysian touch it.  The only thing missing was fried egg. Well..next time ..perhaps..till then....nom nom nom

2 Days & 1 Night - Season 3 : Tasty Food Race Jeollanam-do's 7 Flavors P...

I have to admit having hooked to one of the many Korean Variety shows, I did some recipes inspired from them.  I did the radish tomato kimchi and its so good with noodles.  I have even tried the pancakes. Simple food, yet satisfying and healthy indeed. My version of Radish Tomato Kimchi inspired from 3 meals a day when I saw Park Shin Hye did her tomato kimchi and both Taecyeon & Park Shin Hye prepared Radish Kimchi.  I sort of put two and two together so walla, my version.   My scallions and green chillies pancake also inspired from 3 Meals a Day Program.  Love, love, love it.   Back to this variety show, at times I salivate watching these guys enjoying the food.  I wonder how those camera men and those guys behind felt.

One of those lazy days

Image
Other days I would be so excited to whip up something for the whole family and some of those lazy days I just don't know what to to cook for them.  So I ended up cooking chicken curry and kerabu pegaga last Sunday.  And that was it for everyone, no complaints nothing. I guess the silence gave me the answer huh!

Stir fry Spicy salted mustard.

Image
There's nothing better to enjoy a simple dish to complement the cold weather. My dinner for tonight, Spicy salted mustard. This simple recipe calls for a packet of salted mustard, 4 - 5 cili padi, 1 red bombay onion and a handful of ikan bilis.

Playing with pasta penne

Image
Plan asal nak keluar berjimba-jimba dengan Sue and Jen was cancelled during the last minute. And what did do instead...I prepared a simple pasta penne dish for lunch. As both mum and sis was attending some weddings I whip up this pasta recipe which was inspired from Giada. So here it is.

I ate this once at a friend's wedding in the mid 90's (ages ago huh?), it is one of my many, many favourite dish and been looking for the recipe since then.  And where else can I find any reliable recipes nowadays?..none other than this Johorean  CMG  . This particular one is spicy but I simply love it.  I followed the recipe religiously and the result was marvellous!  However, the next round I would lessen the fried tauhu and would add loads of anchovies. He has a wide collection of reliable recipes that I would ocassionally try and his recipes never fails so far.

Kway Teow ala Mamak

Image
CNY is just round the corner and I can say that the weather speaks loudly to welcome the year of the Snake.  I guess the rainy weather especially the heavy rain  in the evening kinda of preparing for the dragon to make its exit in a weeks' time.      Whatever la kan...  Anyway I was super2 rajin today that I woke up around 4:30 am and prepared Fried Kway Teow ala Mamak style.  And this is it, my version.  No particular recipe just whatever I can salvage in the fridge.  Happy Friday everyone. Salawat dan salam untuk mu ya Rasulullah.

No so wordless Wednesday

Sardine tumis cili api recipe is inspired from Mamatiamia  again. Alhamdulillah I was only stuck with a small portion of rice though was very tempted to add more rice. My own version of cold salad.  Heavily inspired from Greek Salad and Korean Salad. No belacan, no oil or anchovies, just dash of calamansi lime, salt, sugar and freshly ground black pepper. So these were my dinner last night. Nothing fancy but very filling and satisfactory.

Kerabu Peria

Image
Been indulging myself if in lots of good food last week that I only settled for this Bittergourd Salad for dinner last night.  Of course it was bitter but it has a nice tang to it cos I added some calamansi  juice(limau kasturi), salt and sugar for seasoning.  Recipe..super easy, saw the recipe in a magazine and I came up with my own version. Just slice the bittergourds and shallots, pound some chillies with dried shrimps. Mixed them all up and walla my easy peasy version of Kerabu Peria.  Best eaten chill after the the calamansi juice has nicely marinated the bittergourd with the seasoning. Back from Miri, I had gained extra kilos and I keep reminding myself  to watch what I eat.  I guess for a start, this will do.  And will I be disciplined enough to indulge myself in more healthy stuff...well, I can't promise myself but I will definitely try to put some extra effort.  I don't intend to skip meals or whatever but I'll be watching what I...

Sheperd's Pie

Image
This is my first attempt on Sheperd's Pie and according to my No. 1 critic, it was good and spicy(she loves it to be hot and spicy) but the filling was quite wet, it was suppose to be dry but hey...it's my first attempt ok so I should be proud of my effort. Source:   Here Will definitely make this again.  Very2 soon.

Wednesday rambling....

It's the 2nd week of January already, how time flies..and the lazy bug is creeping back again. Been soooo busy this last few days and am not feeling that well either. Anyway, some things that I manage to bake and cook despite being busy. Pasta in tomato sauce a top favourite with everyone too, this is my serving and  I always love sprinkling of black pepper(lots of it) and some spring onion for garnishing... Butter cake...too much dusting of the icing sugar creates something snowy like this, blame me for it!! well..I wanted the cake to look nicer and presentable but alas...this is how it is I present this to the world...cehhh!!!!   ..but the cake is simply delish and was wallup in no time by everyone.

Haish!?? In about 2 months' time, Muslim will observe the fasting month, my...how fast time flies.***shrug***......Since that we were busy attending weddings and engagements last week, I just prepared simple dishes only. Mix vege soup Sambal belacan pusuk Sarawak(sambal belacan ikan bilis), I took this only with rice and the soup only and these were the menu for dinner.  It's only belacan, ikan pusuk & red chillies pounded together.  I prefer to cut the kalamansi lime so that I could take it together with the sambal...gosh!I am salivating already. Udah gik eh! Mun dah makan tok nak, sik boh ada lauk lain agik, memang sik disingo....laju jak jalannya...LOL Cucur bubok kerin (Cucur udang geragau), this was for afternoon tea...  Thinking of going somewhere ...
